Food

Rachel's mum has a recipe book from the 1930s, which will be used as the basis of what we cook each week.

As useful as this book is, we still need more ideas, especially for drinks. We are also planning on making sweets and lemonade, so it would be brilliant if you guys could help us with ideas and simple, cheap recipes.

Please leave comments below, as it would really help us.

Thanks.

  1. Toffees, turkish delight, mashmallows, Fudge, boiled sweets, peppermint creams, Marzipane ....? These are all fairly old sweets that I think go at least as far as the 1930's although maybe further, but they have remained popular and are not only relativly easy to make but cheap too.

As for drinks, perhaps try to make cordials? Elderflower or Dandeline I think would have been popular at teh time. Again they are fairly cheap to make, especialy if you can get a good recipe. Alternativly make Nettle tea, or mint or camomile, by drying them out.

Hope this was a bit of help.
Have fun and best of luck with your fundraising!

    1. We hadn't even thought of cordials. Being in a village we should be able to find lots of plants and fruits. We were planning on picking wild berries and making a crumble.

Sweets would be good, as we can then sell them to make more money for EACH and Jessica.

Thank you so much, we'll find recipes and see which are easy to make.
